The Family Stabilization Program is a comprehensive effort to prevent homelessness by avoiding evictions. It is sponsored by The Salvation Army to serve families in Dane County who are recently homeless or are currently at risk of losing their housing.
The program provides long-term case management for approximately one year for 12 to 16 families at risk of homelessness. The goal is to help each family maintain housing for at least one year. Thus far, over 80% of the families completing this program have accomplished that goal;
Families are referred to the program through our Family Shelter, other community agencies and housing providers, and self-referrals. Participants must be willing to work with a case manager to bring about positive change and stability in their lives. Initially, the case manager meets with the family in the home once a week, but visits decrease as the family moves toward stabilization. The program assists families with money management issues, crisis intervention, counseling and advocacy, as well helping them to network with community resources.
